Artist statement:
A forgotten picture I painted forty years ago and saved by my father, inspired me to explore watercolor.
The sea has been a significant part of my life since learning to swim there as a child and experiencing the feeling that it was a living connection to other parts of the world. My paintings often involve water and my fascination with light and that magical line where the sky meets the earth and sea. I am always drawn by the play of light and the translucence of watercolor.
The co-creation inherent in watercolor, a constant edge between the artist and the medium, which neither can control, intrigues me. Self-taught with no formal training in painting, I am inspired by images from my international travels.
Creativity has always been a large part of my life. After working for many years in a different profession, I have decided that I want to put more of myself into painting. Along side my international work, I want to become part of a community of artists. I paint at home in Woodley Park or sometimes where I am lucky enough to travel.
