About the Artist – Doris Colbert Kennedy

Bio:

Doris Colbert Kennedy is a painter whose works have received acclaim from critics and historians for their unique brushwork, fluidity of line, vibrant energy and esoteric content. Sarah Tanguy sees her paintings as refusing easy description, stirring the imagination and instilling an empathetic sense of wonder. Paul Richard feels that "Few artists hereabouts can do as much with ink. Her techniques are astonishing;" and David Driskell refers to her inner depth of form and the drama in her expression of light.

Her works are in museum, corporate and private collections and have been exhibited in solo and group shows throughout the United States and abroad

Having served as Artist-in-Residence at Howard University, consultant for the Washington Project for the Arts and grant recipient of the National Endowment for the Arts, Kennedy has also taught at the Corcoran School of Art, The American University, Howard University and the University of Science and Technology in Kumasi, Ghana.

Artist Statement:

My works are energy-dances of color and motion, intuitively expressive of theoretical subatomic dynamics. I paint the imagined physics of strings, gluinos, conifold transitions and Higgs particles. Such interactive entities and concepts are metaphorically reflective of philosophical constructs: as the paint moves into and across the canvas, the individuation of Existentialism is dissolved and the cosmic interdependence of the Tao obtains in each stroke, in each painting, in every macro expression of every quantum configuration. The paint, the Tao and the theories of quantum physics resonate with a wholeness that is thrillingly filled with possibilities and confirmations.
