Amy Barker-Wilson

Artist statement:

Amy Barker-Wilson works in various media on canvas and silk. She enjoys working in abstracted representational painting as well as non-representation styles, feeling each informs the other. She comes from a background as a textile designer, has studied painting with Patricia Friend and Helen Corning, has taught arts and crafts in high schools and with adults for many years. Her works in boh textile and paintings are in public buildings and private homes in Europe and in the US.

"The visual has always been my way of understanding the world. My earliest memory was being spellbound by the thrilling beauty of a flock of surprised birds suddenly taking flight making a powerful moving pattern of black shapes against a light filled sky. I have always been interested in the archetypal structures that exist behind our universal experience whose essence is revealed through abstraction; then, what wants to be revealed is always a fresh, amazing surprise for me, as it takes on a life of its own Art is the subjective meeting the objective, a very personal vision the connects with depth of human universal knowing."
