Dupont Circle Scenes

This show presents work by local artists depicting scenes in the Dupont Circle neighborhood in Washington, DC. Dupont Circle, home to the Foundry Gallery, is an area of the District of Columbia notable for its historic buildings. The show is juried by Dwight Young from the National Trust for Historic Preservation. With a long career interpreting historic sites and a background in architectural history, Young brings a unique perspective of looking at the ways that artwork captures the soul of Dupont Circle. Young guides visitors on tours of the neighborhood for the Trust and is the author of several books on history, preservation and architecture.

Community of Fire

Also, in Gallery I the DC Wood Fire potters group will be holding an educational pottery exhibit. Unlike other pottery collectives, this group gathers twice a year to fire 2000 pots in a wood-fired kiln. The potters work shifts around the clock for seven days until the kiln reaches 2,400 degrees. The resulting pots contain subtle earth tones and fire-induced blemishes, and each one is its own creation, since not even the potters can fully control how the pots will look in the end.

The exhibit will display 100 pots along with photographs documenting the creative process. During the opening reception guests can meet with the featured potters and learn more about the wood firing process. Also, on Friday August 27, Kevin Crowe who is a renowned potter and kiln builder, will deliver an artist's talk from from 6 to 8pm.

Opening Reception for both shows: Friday, August 6, 6-8pm
Exhibit Dates: Wednesday, August 4 - Sunday, August 29
