About Foundry Gallery

For over fifty years, Foundry Gallery has supported and showcased some of Washington, DC’s most promising and accomplished artists.  As a non-profit, artist-owned cooperative gallery, Foundry offers a rich diversity of original works of art and focuses on providing exposure and recognition to new and emerging artists. This enables us to feature work not widely seen before.

Foundry Gallery was established in 1971 by four students of well-known Washington, DC painter Gene Davis. Sharing space in the old Duvall Foundry building in Georgetown, the group grew to include more artists. After two other moves in our more than 40-year history, in 2015 we moved to brand new space in a vibrant new neighborhood at the north end of Shaw on 8th Street, NW.

Gallery membership embodies a rich diversity of artistic styles, mediums and techniques. A continuous and abundant influx of new artwork is exhibited, appealing to both novice and experienced art collector alike.

An Alternative Gallery Experience

As an artist-run organization, Foundry offers an alternative gallery experience, through artist talks, workshops, opening receptions, demonstrations and consultations.  And as a cooperative, we can also allow artists greater control over the exhibition and sale of their work. And of course, Foundry is able to offer the highest quality art at more affordable prices than commercial galleries.

Each month at the Foundry Gallery you’ll find:

  • Solo shows in Gallery One featuring a unique glimpse of the art of a different Foundry artist member

  • Exhibits of members’ original art in our Member Gallery, changing monthly

  • Educational opportunities for artists and art lovers of all ages

A Member Cooperative

The strength of Foundry Gallery is its membership. All member artists share a commitment to the highest standards in their art and commit their time and talents to maintain the health of the organization.

To maintain the integrity of the gallery and the quality of our exhibits, prospective members must submit their work for rigorous review by members before being accepted into membership.

Educational Outreach

As a non-profit organization supported by member dues, sales commissions and community donations, Foundry Gallery offers educational events and resources that benefit fellow artists as well as the general public. These events include:

  • Artist lectures and demonstrations

  • Performances by invited guests

  • Workshops for both artists and supporters of the arts

Figure Drawing Sessions

  • Session Dates: Tuesdays

  • Time: 6-9pm

  • Where: Foundry Gallery-2118 8th St NW

  • Cost: $20 Cash, Zelle, Apple Pay, (Venmo as last resort) 

  • Sessions are open to all, no instruction but sharing ideas is encouraged.

  • Format: Open to group consensus but typically as follows:

  • Five 2 min and two 5 min warm up poses

    1. Four 10-15 min poses 

    2. One longer pose to end the session

  • A few tables are available on a first come first serve basis.

  • Bring your own supplies. We DO NOT have easels.
